1850s California Gold Rush Cutlery Handled Bowie Knife with German silver cross guard. Overall measures 12" with an 8" blade marked on ricasso: "EDWARD / BARNES & SONS / 239 SOLLY ST / SHEFFIELD". Faded single blade etched panel with banner that reads: "CALIFORNIA KNIFE". Original red Moroccan leather embossed scabbard. CONDITION: Overall very good. Some moderate gray oxidation on front side of blade, and very light stippling to reverse. Blade handle shows some period contact marks. Scabbard is worn on top thorough to raw leather but is overall good.
