Standard configuration P.38 manufactured by Walther in 1942. The left side of the slide is stamped "P.38" followed by Walther's manufacturer and date code "AC/42" and the serial number. Right side of frame bears an "(Eagle)/ 359" waffenamt on either side of an eagle firing proof. Metal components are salt blued, while the frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved pressed resin grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, slide, barrel, as well as the locking block. This example is accompanied by a brown leather holster marked "joa/ 1941" on the rear (indicating manufacture by Carl Heinichen) that contains 1 additional magazine. Pistol is also accompanied by an original capture paper dated November 29th, 1945, indicating that this P.38 by serial number was captured by Milton B. Peeples. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear that shows through to gray that is mainly present on the grips, that is commensurate with typical wear from carrying and use. Bore is bright, exhibiting mild to moderate pitting and good rifling throughout. Grips are very good overall. Holster leather is malleable, exhibiting age related cracking on the closure flap and areas of wear and mild crazing overall.
