This last standard issue model of the venerable trapdoor series featured a screwdriver rod bayonet. This example is fitted with the standard 32 - 5/8" blued barrel with "V / P / (Eagle Head) / P" proofs and chambered for .45-70. Buffington adjustable rear sight and blade front sight. Case hardened low arch breech block marked "US MODEL 1884". Blued lock plate marked with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Full length walnut stock stamped with script "SWP / 1891" cartouche, circled "P" proof at wrist and a "D / 2 / 50" unit/rack number near the butt. Stock is mounted with 2 blued iron bands and a "US" marked trap butt, which still retains its tools. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components have turned to a brown/gray patina. Stock are have been refreshed, with a few remaining impressions and a small sliver of loss along the bayonet channel. Good bore. Crisp mechanics.
