1850s Gold Rush era clip point cutlery handled Bowie knife with German silver cross guard. 3 line maker stamp on ricasso: "W. WILKINSON / & SON / SHEFFIELD". Left hand blade panel has etched American Eagle holding $10,000 bag of gold in its beak, Above the motto: "I CAN DIG GOLD FROM QUARTZ" / "CALIFORNIAN BOWIE KNIFE" / along with: "A CALIFORNIAN ASKS FOR NOTHING BUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUBMIT TO NOTHING THAT IS WRONG." Blade measures 7" and knife measures 12 1/4" overall. CONDITION: Blade is bright from cleaning, but etched panel is still moderately strong with some light pitting and spotting. Handle is tight and excellent.
