Large 1860s Sheffield Bowie with interesting silver lancet or toothpick in the butt of the stag gripped handle. This exact knife was published in the June 1963 issue of Gun World magazine in an article titled "THE BRAWNY BOWIE" by Tommy L. Bish on pg. 28. Knife features a clip point blade, measures 9 - 3/4" long by 1 - 3/4" wide. Marked on the left hand blade panel: "George Wostenholm & Son Ltd / WASHINGTON WORKS/ SHEFFIELD ENGLAND". Marked on the left hand side of the ricasso "I*XL". 2-piece stag slab grips with full length tang and silver escutcheon on left slab. An original copy of the magazine is included. CONDITION: Blade shows evidence of moderate to heavy cleaning to remove light pitting but makers stamp is strong. Moderate spotting on now smooth gray overall blade. Grips show nice patina and are solid.
