A unique offering of Western memorabilia associated with William F. Cody famously known as "Buffalo Bill". (A) Engraved Winchester Model 1873 Third model in .44-40 with 24" rifled octagonal barrel, rifle sights, and full length magazine. Gun has case hardened receiver with non-factory floral and animal scene engraving done by unknown engraver. Plain walnut stocks with crescent trap door steel buttplate. Cody Research verifies manufacturing date of 1898 and configuration except engraving. CONDITION: Metal surfaces worn to a gray patina with some light added cold blue applied in spots. Engraving was added and does not appear to be factory. Wood has been sanded and has well worn appearance. Good bore with visible rifling. Good mechanics with lever needing adjustment.(B) Pair of nickel plated and ivory gripped Remington Model 1890 single action revolvers made by Remington from 1891 to 1896 with non-consecutive serial numbers, but matching configurations with well-worn nickel finish, 5 -3/4" barrels, .44-40 caliber, lanyard rings, and matching polished ivory grips spuriously marked "W.F.C.". Grip straps are marked with period engraving and "WILLIAM F. CODY" signature in script. Cody was known to like Remington Firearms, carrying an 1858 New Model Army until giving it to friends Charlie and Carrie Trego in 1906 claiming "It never failed me". (C) Secretarial signed letter mentioning the guns. Also included is an authentic "W.F. Cody" signed file card photo with authenticity letter from J.S.A. CONDITION: Photo is clear and nicely framed along with letter. An interesting lot in need of more research!
