Circa 1860s. 7 - 7/8" classic clip point blade bowie marked on the blade's face "G. WOSTENHOLM & SON, WASHINGTON WORKS, SHEFFIELD" with the ricasso marked "I*XL". Stag handle scales with iron pins and iron reinforced guard. 12 - 1/2" overall length. Morocco leather sheath with nickel silver tip and throat, the throat with attached belt loop. CONDITION: Blade with moderate sharpening and scattered light pitting, reverse handle scale with 1 pin crack. Sheath with crack and scattered flaking of surface. An interesting knife apparently made as a less expensive model for soldiers during the Civil War era, very rare today. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
