Shield shaped identification tag, likely for a key or watch fob. “A. Stafford / Pat Applied for” in raised letters on reverse. Obverse with eagle with raised wings surrounded by stars holding in its beak a ribband scroll draping across it stamped with the owner’s name: “J.C. ROBERTSON / PITN. ZOUAVE / PA.” There are a number of Pennsylvania J. or J.C. Robertsons with Civil War service, but unit may be the Pittston Zouaves of Luzerne County, a slightly postwar organization, which would accord with this style of tag. Still, a very patriotic tag demonstrating the continued romantic allure of Zouave troops in the 19th century. CONDITION: Excellent.
