A scarcely seen lot of a Utah Indian Wars Association commemorative ribbon and identified Utah Indian Wars Veteran's Medal and Indian Wars Campaign Medal. Medal has a bronze planchet, obverse inscribed "UTAH INDIAN WAR VETERAN", having an eagle with a crest, sun rays, and a national shield motif, tri-color ribbon and a bronze suspension bar having an Indian head with the dates "1850 - 1872". The reverse is inscribed to the original recipient as follows: "Presented by the state of Utah to William Bruce". The accompanying ribbon is stamped on the royal blue silk background "UTAH INDIAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION". Gold gilded bullion fringe is across the bottom. Top celluloid pin has a Utah state seal depicting the beehive and date September 9, 1850. Suspended below is an American flag ribbon with a circular badge with an American Indian wearing a war bonnet pictured. These were made by the Whitehead and Hoag and Company, Newark New Jersey. This ribbon retains the factory label. This medal and ribbon were awarded approximately in January 1906 and are exceedingly rare. The Indian Wars campaign medal is a later 1930's era Studley replacement medal and not a numbered original. CONDITION: Medal is excellent with a solidly attached ribbon. Ribbon silk is solid with no shattering or fading. Bright colors to the badge and ribbon both. Finest example this cataloguer has seen.
