Approximately 2000 System Borchardt pistols were manufactured by DWM, with an additional 1,100 also manufactured by Loewe as the first commercially successful semi-automatic handgun, even seeing trials with the United States Army in 1894. This restored example features expertly reapplied blued finish throughout with markings remaining very legible. Standard 7 - 1/2" BUG proofed barrel chambered in 7.65 Borchardt with blade front sight and v-notch rear. Right side of frame marked "SYSTEM BORCHART. PATENT. / DEUTSCHE WAFFEN - UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN. / BERLIN." with the toggle reading "D.R.P. / No 75837." Externally visible serial numbers matching, including magazine. 2-piece checkered walnut grips are unmarked and appear to be reproductions. Pistol is housed in a contemporary wood display case and is complete with a reproduction holster. CONDITION: Excellent as restored. Nearly all of the expertly reapplied finishes are retained throughout with a few minor handling marks. Magazine shows some wear. Very good bore with some light frosting, displaying strong rifling throughout. Case is fair with several splits and impressions. A nicely restored, rare example of an important and desirable early semi-automatic pistol.
