K98k manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch under contract for the SS in 1944. The receiver is stamped with Steyr's small block "bnz." code above a single SS rune, a Russian "X" capture mark, as well as the single digit date of manufacture "4". The right side of the receiver bears a single "(Eagle)/ 77" waffenamt, indicating that this receiver was originally produced at the Radom arsenal for the Wehrmacht but was redirected for use in Steyr's SS contract. The right side of the barrel bears a "COLE DIST." import stamp, with the left bearing the model and caliber designation applied by the importer. The right side of the buttstock bears a faint "(Eagle)/ H" Heer proof above 2 faint Mauser "(Eagle)/ WaA63" waffenamts. Metal components exhibit a dark Russian dip blue, with the wood stock having been refinished and featuring a flat buttplate. Matching numbers, including the bolt assembly, floorplate, and trigger guard, are electro-penciled to match, with the remaining components mismatched. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their Russian dip finish, exhibiting a few minor areas of wear that show through to a brown patina and a few small scattered spots of mild pitting—brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well-defined lands and grooves throughout. The stock retains the vast majority of its lacquer finish, exhibiting some minor marks from handling and storage and a few small repairs.
