An unsurprisingly crude example of a Confederate cavalry saber scabbard, possibly manufactured by Louis Froelich. The scabbard is constructed of a heavy iron body with iron drag, brass carry bands, brass throat, and iron rings. Crude off-center seam. Misshapen iron rings. Throat is marked "XXIIII" with scabbard body faintly marked "XXIII" at drag. Measures approximately 36 - 3/4". The scabbard exhibits a dark gray, almost chocolate, patina with scattered small dents toward the drag. Obvious wear with scattered blemishes. CONDITION: Good.
