Receiver manufactured circa 1874. 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 with blade front sight and "R" marked Buffington rear. Low arch breech block marked "US / MODEL / 1884". Lock plate is marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" with Federal eagle motif. Full length plain walnut stock with faint script "SWP / 1889" cartouche, encircled "P" rifling proof and "37" rack number. Mounts include 2 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. Complete with cleaning rod and an ill fitting "SG" marked socket bayonet. CONDITION: Good. Metal has drifted to a plum brown patina. Stock has been refinished with some impressions from military service still present. Strong dark bore. Crisp mechanics.
