1759 bond for Jonathan Lattimore, Jnr., of New London to act as paymaster for a "company of foot souldiers" in the "last campaign against the French Possessions in Canada... commanded by him..." Bond undertaken by Lattimore and David Holmes. Signed at lower left "Jas. Wadsworth Jnr." and "John Chester." The former is possibly James Wadsworth, later Revolutionary War general, but is more likely his father (1700-1777.) In either case, Lattimore had answered the alarm for the relief of Ft. William Henry, and served as Captain of the Fifth Company of Eleazer Fitch's regiment in the campaign of 1758. He seems to be the same John Lattimore, Jr., (1724-1806) who was Nathan Hale's captain in the 7th CT in the Revolution, Major, Lt. Colonel of the 4th Battalion, and Colonel of the 3rd CT Militia. CONDITION: Excellent.
