Lot consists of 5 items. (A) 1792 letter from Easton of Simeon Keith authorizing payment to Abiel Kinsely of money owed to him by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. CONDITION: Good. Hole at upper left. (B) State of Massachusetts Bay bond for 13 pounds, purchased by John Cramm December 1, 1777. Plate engraved by Nathaniel Hurd and altered by Paul Revere to read State instead of Province and to include an armed soldier. Signed by Henry Gardner, Treasurer, and Scollay, Price and Boyer as members of the Committee. CONDITION: Very good. (C) Marinus Willett signed bail bond as Sheriff, October 1786. Willet served in the provincials in the French and Indian War, and several New York regiments in the revolution, becoming Colonel of 5th New York, and saw action in Quebec, Battle of Long Island, at Monmouth, in the Sullivan Expedition, and led the Tryon County militia at Johnstown. He served in the New York Assembly after the war, 2 terms as Sheriff of New York County, and a term as mayor of New York City. CONDITION: Good. Some foxing, ink blots, one hole at fold. (D) Thomas Mifflin signed 1791 appointment of Samuel Benezet as clerk of the Bucks County Orphans Court. Signed upper left Thos. Mifflin under seal. Mifflin (1744-1800) served in the Continental Army, served as an aide to Washington, and had a good battlefield record, but was criticized as quartermaster general. Prominent in Pennsylvania politics, he became the last president and first governor of the state. With JSA letter of authenticity. CONDITION: Fair. Tears to left edge and losses to right. Separations on folds. Signature bold and clear. (E) Connecticut pay voucher for Revolutionary War service to Mr. Hezh. Betts. Signed at bottom by Peter Colt, Treasurer. This is likely Hezekiah Betts, 1760-1837, who served in the 9th Connecticut Regiment in 1780. CONDITION: Excellent.
