Lot consists of: (A) ALS to L.W. Francis, another great surgeon with interesting content "...our friend Barnum has been to me and I sent him to you--he has since written to me-- what are we to do in this matter...of course I know there is something in ethics that stares us in the face...we publish our opinion in some medical journal and let him take it from there...". Perhaps referring to one of Barnum's attractions (Bearded Lady?) that he took such pride in proving genuine. The letter is foxed and exhibits soiling but boldly written with clear writing and signature. (B) Letter dated July 11, 1901 to Major General Dix. Interesting content, in part: "No article is more important for the health of a Soldier, than a coarse flannel Belly band. All should wear them & particularly as the autumn approaches, to ward off one of the worst of soldiers maladies, Dysentery..." After commenting on the Ladies Association and other charitable organizations engaged in making bandages, Dr. Mott concludes, "I sincerely hope that the National Legislature will see it proper to aid us in this work of humanity..." A nice letter with fold lines, and slightly faded areas of writing. Clear signature. (C) Dr. Mott's Eulogy on Dr. Francis. Dated Oct. 5, 1851 inscribed "To Wm C. Roberts, M.D. with the esteem of his Preceptor V. Mott" with an initialed note by Roberts stating that he received the pamphlet at Mott's house in Gramercy Part. "Tho' aging about the face, he looks well & is as elegant in manner & as kind as ever." Flexible cloth cover is detached. Pages exhibit aging with clear writing and signature. Appears complete with all 33 pages. All documents are ex-Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection. Each piece comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: Fair-good.
