Manufactured circa 1887 as part of the US Government contract Colt Cavalry Single Action Army revolvers of the 1870s-1890s. Features include 7 - 1/2" barrel with standard front sight, single line barrel address, "v" notch rear sight, low profile kidney shaped ejector rod head, 3 line patent date, US marked frame, blue finish, color case hardened frame, and 1 piece walnut grips. Inspector marked "D.F.C." on barrel, frame, cylinder, and bottom of grip near butt. Left grip panel bears 1887 date as well as "J.W.B." cartouche, right grip panel bears "D.F.C." cartouche. Accompanied by a high condition model 1881 US Cavalry holster, which is complete with buckle and 1 clip to accommodate a Cavalry saber. CONDITION: Excellent, with barrel and backstrap expertly restored, balance of revolver is in original condition, with bright original case colors and a vast majority of the original bluing remaining on cylinder with handling marks throughout. Grips show light wear with handling marks, legible cartouches, and no major signs of distress. Mechanically excellent with action tight and crisp. Bore is lightly frosted with well-defined rifling. Holster rig is excellent, with age related crazing, tight stitching, and supple leather. Brass components are an attractive mellow patina. A handsome set.
