This club butt fowler was likely built in Rhode Island circa 1770 (according to the consignor tag). Fowler measures 64 - 1/4" overall with a 48 - 1/4" round .74 caliber smoothbore barrel with bead front sight. Early recycled flint lock, possibly a lock a hundred years older than the gun, with single trigger control. Full-length hardwood stock with brass hardware, checkered wrist, and scalloped tang carving. CONDITION: Overall fair with metal turning a gray patina. Brass aged to an original golden yellow. The wood has traces of the original finish with damage around the comb, several cracks and slivers, and some brass shrinkage gaps. Dark pitted bore with mechanics in need of attention.
