The curved body measures about 14 - 1/2" across the biome, including the turned wooden plug. The curved body has a turned spout followed by 3 deeply grooved wedding bands. The main portion of the horn has 3 applied convex horn bands and one flat band at the butt with 4 engraved lines. The bulbous wooden plug is turned and has an iron staple in the center for strap attachment. Between the lowest 2 bands, there are extensive well-executed and polychromed engravings. The front features extensive Masonic designs, including a ladder, scepter, compass, arched gateway, "G", a coffin, scales, the all-seeing eye, a hand clutching a sword, 2 shaking hands, several trees, a rooster and a horse with an American flag. The back side features a polychrome American eagle with splayed wings, talons clutching an olive branch, and arrows above the date "May 27th 1823". Between the first and second bands, there is an engraved whale. Complete with an original wooden powder measure. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing light honey patina. Engavings retain bright yellow polychrome colors and reds, mostly turned to brown. Some light scattered scratches from use. Butt very good with a minor partial hairline age crack. There is a chip missing on top of the faceted wooden powder measure. A large horn with beautiful form and patriotic engravings. From the Louie Parker Collection.
