This petite rifle has classic Lehigh County architecture. The rifled octagonal barrel is inscribed "J Christ" on the top flat. The lock is stamped "LONDON / WARRANTED" in the center. The 2-piece brass patchbox is inscribed with a large "JR" on the lid, and the finial is pierced and features an engraved bird with long tail feathers perched on leaves. Classic Lehigh sideplate terminating at the back with an arrow. Lehigh trigger guard with lug in front of bow. Engraved toeplate in the shape of a tombstone. Between the toeplate and trigger guard, there is an engraved floral inlay made of ivory. The figured tiger maple stock has a stepped wrist with shaped checkering. There is a relief-carved stylized flour-de-lis behind the ramrod entry ferrule. Complete with a rope-stained wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina, signature possibly spurious. The lock is a replacement and a reconversion. Some wood restoration around the lock. Brass retains a pleasing mustard-to-dark-mustard patina. Some minor chips below the lockplate and a splinter was replaced along the barrel towards the muzzle on the right side. A pleasing Lehigh rifle with a slender and attractive form. From the Louie Parker Collection.
