Factory letter indicates that the records for this revolver were lost other than factory engraving and a ship date of October 10th, 1940. Engraving consists of a reasonably restrained, approximately A grade, coverage of floral motifs and scroll, with little arrows behind each cylinder flute. Traditional Colt rollmarks include 2 line patent information, subinspector proofs, and caliber/model designation. Deluxe multi-point checkered grips with matching serial number on right grip interior in pencil. At some point after leaving the factory, this revolver was worked over by King, and fitted with a Colt-King Super Target rib with inset mirror and red polymer front sight, square notch adjustable rib, iconic King's "cockeyed" hammer, widened and checkered trigger bow. CONDITION: Overall excellent, with the vast majority of the factory finishes retained throughout, with minor losses to bluing at high edges and towards muzzle. Some superficial marks from handling and use throughout. Case colors excellent, retaining virtually all of the colors with some minor marks. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent with strong rifling. Grips are excellent with handling marks but free of cracks or chips. A nice example of a scarce revolver; most King's SAA work did not involve ribs.
