Manufactured 1943. Standard configuration of the Remington Rand with half moon front sight (replaced and shaved to reprofile), flat top square notch rear sight, normal slide legends and FDA inspector marks, High Standard barrel with typical HS on right lug and P on left. Small parts comprise narrow checkered hammer, thick tab safety, serrated slide release, short stamped trigger, checkered magazine release, long A1 grip safety, and arched knurled mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Keyes fibre grips with thin reinforcing rings. Magazine marked "R" on top lip of baseplate and "C-R" on bottom of lip, indicating manufacture by Risdon. Accompanied by a black leather double magazine pouch stamped on back "US / DLA100-79-C-2299" with 2 spare magazines, one marked "R" for Risdon and the other "L" for Little. Colt Conversion Unit for .22 LR, floating chamber, adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight. Accompanied by a notarized statement indicating that these items were given to the consignor's family in the early 1980s by Walter J. Smith, a World War II paratrooper who was awarded the Purple Heart. CONDITION: Gun has been polished and reblued, retaining the vast majority of that rebluing with some minor marks from handling and use. Legends and edges softened but legible. Grips are very good with some abraded heads. Mechanically fine, bore has strong rifling and pitting throughout. Accessories are very good; Colt Conversion kit is very good, commensurate with pistol, bore with strong rifling and some light frosting. An interesting set.
