1 of only approximately 800-1500 Colt Officers Model Target revolvers manufactured with .32 caliber heavy barrels between 1939-1941. This example is stamped "COLT" followed by "OFFICERS MODEL" and "32" above "HEAVY BARREL" between 2 Maltese crosses, with Colt's 2-line address present across the top. The left side of the frame bears the Rampant Colt logo and "VP" proof. Metal components exhibit a blue finish, while the frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered walnut grips. Rear grip strap and trigger are factory checkered. It is interesting to note that this example is sequentially numbered to an example that was previously offered as Lot 2468 Morphy's December 16, 17, & 18, 2020 Field & Range Firearms auction, which was sent in a shipment of 35 Officers Model .32 caliber Heavy Barrel revolvers to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Quartermaster in Natick, MA on May 14th of 1941. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some spots of mild edge wear and some scattered superficial marks from storage and handling overall. The left side of the frame bears a small oval-shaped area of discoloration. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some mild smoothing but are otherwise fine. A very fine example of a scarce and seldom encountered Colt Officers Model Target variation.
