Third Model Type I Plant's MFG. Company single action revolver made in New Haven, Connecticut, circa the mid-1860s with around 7,300 made. Blued barrel marked on the top rib with "PLANT'S MFG CO. NEW HAVEN, CT." and on the left side "MERWIN & BRAY NEW YORK" with silver blade front sight and grooved top receiver. Brass receiver with floral period full coverage Nimschke style engraving with oval mountain and castle scene on the left side. The frame has a polished thumb trigger and hammer. 6-shot nickel-plated engraved detachable cylinder. The frame is fitted with 2-piece ivory grips. Comes with a period leather holster. CONDITION: Barrel has a blue-brown finish with edges turning silver. The frame has aged to a mellow golden-yellow patina. The cylinder has some edge flaking with a turn line. The grips have some dark cracking and a small chip out of the left bottom grip and have aged to a deep yellow patina. The holster is good with replaced belt loop. Dark pitted bore with trigger spring broken. Nice looking period piece.
