Manufactured by Simeon North in 1847 for use by units such as the 1st and 2nd US Dragoons in the War with Mexico, and continuing in service through the Civil War. During the Civil War era, quite a few of these were bored out to .58 caliber and rifled for use. This one remains unconverted in .52 caliber smoothbore with correct sights and standard configuration throughout. Dated on top of breechblock 1847. Markings include "JH" sub-inspector cartouche on right of barrel, "WAT" inspector cartouche on right flat of stock, and "GWH" cartouche on left flat of stock. CONDITION: Excellent for its age, exhibiting an armory bright type polish with freckling throughout. Cartouches and markings are sharp. Stock shows light wear and finish loss at toward the receiver, but no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright and smooth, shot very little if at all.
