Lot consists of: (A) April 15, 1857 letter by Jefferson Davis to Col. J.D. Hoover with a note enclosed for President James Buchanan (the note is not present), and Davis states that the dog Hoover gave them is doing well. He then goes on to say "I expect to be off very soon the Boy being I hope now quite out of danger". Signed "Your friend Jefferson Davis". An interesting letter by Davis before his endeavors as the president of the Confederate States of America. Measures approximately 7 - 1/2" x 4 - 3/4". Crisp edges with light blemishes and clear writing. CONDITION: Very good. (B) September 27th, 1889 letter by Jefferson Davis declining an invitation to attend his high school annual meeting. The letter comes with its original envelope as well as an early transcription. Measures approximately 7" x 4 - 3/8". Stamped "Autograph Collection of Dr. Max Thorek Chicago". Crisp edges with light blemishes and clear writing. CONDITION: Very good. The letters are accompanied by James Spence Authentication Full Letters of Authenticity. Both are former Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection.
