Lot consists of: (A) Letter written by Charles Lindbergh that reads "This box contains aircraft and personal equipment which was carried from the United States and which is now being returned in order to save the weight in carrying forth." Signed "Charles A Lindbergh Oct 24, 1933" and addressed to himself at his Englewood, New Jersey address. The signature was verified and comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. Nice edges with noticeable fold lines. Scattered light tears. Ink remains bold and legible. CONDITION: Good. (B) A.G. Spalding & Bros cloth flight helmet with leather ear cups and trim with "C.A. LINDBERGH" and "EJ DETMER" written inside. There is also a set of Western Electric 563A headphones. Both the flight helmet and the headphones were stored together with the letter and were part of the John K. Lattimer Collection. Lattimer was known to collect artifacts related to Charles Lindbergh, as the two became close friends later in life. Lattimer used this flight equipment for his display on Lindbergh. The helmet exhibits scattered stains and blemishes but remains flexible. Headphones remain intact with slight leather loss and intact cord. CONDITION: Good.
