Approximately 4,500 24" military model 2-trigger carbines chambered in .44 rimfire were manufactured circa 1859 to 1864. In addition to the standard 2-line Wesson patent marking, this example is marked on the top flat of the barrel for dealer "KITTREDGE & CO. / CINNCINATI. O.". Kittredge supplied these carbines to Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, and Missouri for use in the Civil War. This carbine is equipped with a standard length tip-up blued octagon barrel mounted with blade front sight, buckhorn rear, and a forward sling swivel, the rear swivel mounted to the trigger guard. Stocked in plain walnut with a small set of carved initials and a crescent steel butt plate. CONDITION: Very good overall. Portions of finish are present on the barrel with the balance drifting to a brown patina. Receiver exhibits a silvery brown patina. Stock is very good, showing some dings and marks throughout. Frosted bore retains strong rifling. Full or partial matching serial numbers observed on the inside of frame under the barrel, barrel link, underside of butt plate, butt plate screws, and on the butt (in pencil). Trigger guard appears to be replacement.
