Park Alfonso Findley (1875-1935) joined the Iowa National Guard in July of 1891 as a Private and Hospital Steward, rising through the ranks to retire as a Brigadier General in 1930. He was awarded the Philippine Campaign medal, the Philippine Congressional medal, and the Spanish War Service medal, for service in the 51st Iowa Vol. Inf.; the Mexican Border Service medal for service in the 3rd Iowa Infantry; the Mexican Service Campaign medal for service as Captain in the 5th US Cavalry; and was eligible for the World War I Victory medal as well. He served as a county sheriff and, at his death, was head of the Iowa Bureau of Investigation. His group contains his Philippine Insurrection medal, numbered 11105, Spanish War Service Medal, numbered 277, Philippine Campaign medal, numbered 18999, Mexican Border Service Medal, hallmarked Medallic Art Company, Mexican Service Medal, numbered 8398, and World War I Victory Medal. The group also contains all of Findley's mini medals for wear on civilian attire. The medals exhibit a pleasing patina and areas of fraying to ribbons which is most prominent on the WWI Victory Medal. CONDITION: Good.
