A reproduction of the iconic Model 1862 Gatling Battery Gun, which made its debut at the end of the Civil War. This well-built example features a cluster of 6 28" round .52 caliber rifled barrels actuated by a brass crank. Ammunition is fed via gravity-fed magazines, 8 of which are included, along with a crate of the steel cartridges, which are loaded individually with percussion caps. The frame, body, and yoke are constructed of brass. Gun is mounted to a green-painted wood field carriage on 42" diameter spoked wheels with iron tires. Engraved carriage data plate reads "MC WHINNEY RIDGE CO. CINCINNTI / 1862". A set of 3 wooden tripod legs also accompanies this lot. CONDITION: Fair. Barrels display a gray patina with some oxidation and a layer of grease. Brass has mellowed to a pleasing patina with some areas of verdigris on the frame. Strong bores. Action cycles correctly. Carriage has a weathered appearance with some splits present in the spokes. 1 spoke is broken; the carriage otherwise appears stable for display. Other accessories rate fair to very good. An impressive piece for any large gun room!
