Standard configuration 31st Type 99 bolt action rifle manufactured at the Toyo Kogyo arsenal during World War II. The receiver retains its full chrysanthemum above Kanji characters denoting the model designation over the chamber. The left side bears the series number, serial number, and Toyo Kogyo arsenal insignia. Metal components are blued, while the stock and handguard are comprised of wood. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, bolt body, extractor, and firing pin. Cocking knob is a last-ditch pattern replacement. The rifle retains its cleaning rod, monopod, and anti-aircraft rear sight "wings". It is mounted with an unserialized period dust cover and a period rubberized canvas sling. Additionally, this example is accompanied by a bayonet, scabbard, and leather frog manufactured by an unknown private contractor under Kokura's supervision. CONDITION: Very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some mild wear that shows through to a gray patina, as well as areas of mild surface-related oxidation overall. Interior of the rifle exhibits a thick layer of grease, with the exterior retaining spots of grease. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. The stock exhibits some scattered marks, dings, and minor impressions from storage and handling but is otherwise fine. Rubberized canvas sling exhibits age-related cracking and surface wear overall, with some spots of fray and separation of the canvas layers. The bayonet is very good overall, with some mild wear and oxidation.
