The Webley Wilkinson Model 1905 revolvers are extremely well regarded for their fit and finish, and were very popular with British Officers who still had to provide their own sidearms. This example has had it's barrel professionally shortened to 4", with significant portions of the top rib address removed, and now starting with "...SON". .455/476 caliber markings with Wilkinson's 6-sided star. Appropriate British proofs on cylinder and at slope of rib. Case colored hammer. Grip with 1-piece walnut grip with checkered panel, a silver escutcheon that reads "WSG JR", presumably an owner, and "W779" on bottom left. Rotatable lanyard loop with a carabiner and "dummy cord". Configuration as such would have been very useful in the trenches of World War I. CONDITION: Metal retains virtually all of a rebluing with legends softened and infilled. Some handling marks and use throughout, including some minor areas of oxidation. Hammer has good evidence of case colors in protected areas, with high activity areas fading. Grips are very good but appear to have been refreshed and recheckered as they are shy to escutcheon. Cylinder still has proofs visible on rear and appears uncut, mechanically fine, bore with visible rifling and areas of heavy oxidation. A very interesting example.
