An attractive example of a Third Reich period German hunting cutlass. Nickel-plated steel blade, with dull edges and sharp tip. Reverse ricasso is marked by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. The blade is wonderfully etched with the standard hunting cutlass design of that period, depicting moderate blemishes, but with the original etching remains crisp. The spine is decorated with etched leaves. Brass hilt with hoof quillon and a D-guard. Stag grips with 6 (3 on each side) decorative acorns fastened to the grip. A green and silver portepee is affixed to the grip. The scabbard is constructed of stiffened black leather with brass fittings. Upper mount features an acorn stud with stag engraving on drag. The blade exhibits a light patina with unmolested etching. Hilt exhibits a pleasing patina with darkening around bird on languet. Stag grips are intact with light wear. Scabbard exhibits scattered blemishes with generous amounts of gilding remaining on mounts. CONDITION: Very good.
