This pistol is in the pattern that the United States used for the 1811 Evans pistol. It is in an unusual configuration in that it does not have any manufacturer's marks or model numbers anywhere on it. The marks consist of crowned proofs, eagle heads, Maltese crosses, fleur-de-lis proofs, and number "3" assembly numbers, with these inspectors or acceptance marks and proofs throughout, including on the barrel, tang, stock, furniture, pan, trigger guard, sideplate, band, etc. Due to the multitude of proof and acceptance marks, it seems possible that this pistol was a prototype or an example piece. The barrel is marked offset the breech with "1810" with further proof or acceptance marks. Brass furniture comprises stock band, waterproof pan, trigger guard, buttcap, sideplate, and bridge between stock band and sideplate. The reinforced cock is with bridled pan. CONDITION: Metal is bright with crisp markings throughout, some areas of darkness scattered throughout, none serious. Brass has a rich golden coloring, and the legends are clear. Stock is very good, with crisp marks throughout though some associated handling marks, including 2 chips at the lock, one at fore and one at rear. Mechanically it is fine, the bore is very good. Of particular interest are the eagle head proofs, which may suggest an American association, or perhaps the mark of by then emperor Napoleon.
