Full-stock Kentucky rifle made by Nicholas Shennefelt circa 1850 in Clarion, Pennsylvania. Gun has 34" octagon heavy target type barrel measuring 1 - 1/4" from flat to flat with silver blade front sight, rear adjustable sight, and barrel stamped "N. SHENNEFELT/CLARION, PA". Gun has percussion back action Whitmore and Wolfe & Company marked lock with double set trigger control front being lathe turned. Full-length curly maple stock with brass hardware, including an engraved oval patchbox, full brass saddle plate, and comb piece. Stock is decorated with 29 coin-silver inlays, including a "Rocket Arrow" (inlay often used in Huntingdon County, his previous working area), moons, and fish. Comes with an original threaded iron tip ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with areas of light pitting. Brass has been cleaned and is starting to fade back to a pleasing patina. Wood has had a coat of wax with areas of burnout around lock and stable crack at muzzle and across backplate. Dark pitted bore with visible rifling with good mechanics.
