Engraved by accomplished artist Augustin de Saint Aubin (French, 1736-1807) in 1777 based on a drawing of Benjamin executed by Charles Nicolas Cochin (French, 1715-1790) earlier that year. It was one of the first prints to circulate in France as Franklin served there as ambassador during the Revolution. Franklin is pictured in his iconic fur cap in a porthole view. Found in England, this framed example is found to have been affixed to its heavier card stock backing with 4 green wax seals embossed with trees, symbolic of the Liberty Tree of Boston, and the Sons of Liberty. Displayed in an attractive and period molded wood frame. View 6 - 1/4" x 9". Overall 8 - 1/2" x 11 - 1/4". CONDITION: Very good, clean image with some expected yellowing from age. Frame has some scattered marks and minor losses to trim gilding.

Item Dimensions: 12 x 9"
