This portfolio with extensive engravings includes: Four excellent condition Revolutionary War engravings engraved for the 1783 edition of Barnard’s “New Impartial and Complete History of England”, including (1) “The American General Lee taken Prisoner by Lieutenant Colonel Harcourt”, (2) “The Unfortunate Death of Major Andre”, (3) “The Engagement of HMS Serapis and Paul Jones’ Bonhomme Richard”, and (4) “The Preliminary Articles of Peace Between Great Britain, France, and Spain”; three rare 1777 French engravings including (5) Benjamin Franklin in fur cap; (6) General Benedict Arnold; (7) first American Naval Commandant Esek Hopkins; (8) a 1777 German engraving of General Benedict Arnold; (9) a 1782 French Engraving of The Surrender of Earl Cornwallis engraved soon after Yorktown, (10) a rare French ca. 1793 engraving of George Washington; (11) a rare 1810 American colored David Edwin engraving of Ben Franklin titled "Dr. Franklin"; (12) a fascinating 1777 dated handwritten fine of 10 pounds issued to a soldier of Hallifax Massachusetts for not fighting (he served with honor in the military but refused to carry a gun); (13) a ca 1830. hand colored English engraving of "General Burgoyne addressing the Indians at their War Feast in Canada"; (14) an early 19th century engraving of "Various Arms of Modern Times"; (15) a French published 1810 Map of the Battle of White Plains “Pays Situe entre Frog’s Point et Croton River et Position Des Armees Americaine et Britannique depuis le 12 Octobre 1776” (appeared in a French edition of John Marshall’s work on the Life of George Washington); (16) 1861 engraving of General Howe evacuating Boston; (17) Baron Johann de Kalb introducing Lafayette to Silas Deane; (18) a rare 19th c. portrait engraving of Kasimir Pulaski; (19) a rare latter 18th c. engraving of William Penn from a short lived Phila. periodical; (20) a rare engraving of Sir Henry Clinton; (21) 1801 dated English military "Regulations Respecting Deserters"; (22) a 15th c. handwritten extensive text dated 1477, written in old German with wax seal attached by string, perhaps a will and testament, or a written history mentioning his gun (spelled “gonne”) and the wars of 1449-1453. CONDITION: Good with crisp and clear images, some with minor foxing or staining common to old paper. An excellent grouping of rare and historic engravings and Paperwork.
