Classic Plains half stock percussion rifle made by the famous Samuel Hawken of St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1840. Full octagon .58 caliber 35 - 1/2" barrel measures 1 - 7/16" across muzzle with Rocky Mountain sights. Barrel stamped "S. HAWKEN ST. LOUIS" with patent breech. Percussion lock maker marked "H.Parker / Warranted" with double set trigger control. Plain walnut half stock with iron furniture, pewter nose cap, and 2 barrel escutcheons. Comes with an original-looking hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a brown patina with slight surface pitting. Wood has a dark appearance with usage dings and marks and no visible restoration. The hardware has turned brown with a dark brown patina. Rough dark bore with traces of visible rifling. Good mechanics. This a great example of a very iconic Western Rifle.
