Shipped from the factory September 2, 1896, as a takedown rifle in .45-90 with octagon barrel per included Cody factory research. The blued 26" octagon barrel features a full-length magazine tube, 2-line roll stamped address, Beech combination front sight, buckhorn rear sight, and tang mounted aperture sight. Blued takedown receiver with case-hardened lever and hammer. Rifle sports attractively figured American walnut 2-piece stocks with blued nose cap and crescent rifle butt plate. CONDITION: Very fine overall. The vast majority of the rich factory-applied blued finish is retained, some areas drifting to a brown patina with surface scratching and evidence of cleaned oxidation. Hammer and lever display flashes of vivid case colors, the balance fading to a silvery patina. Wood is excellent as lightly cleaned with some added finish. Strong bore showing well-defined rifling throughout with a few light pits. Crisp mechanics. A nice, desirable antique 1886 takedown rifle.
