A wonderful C grade Model 1898 manufactured from 1898 to 1905. Correct blued 28" "Special Smokeless Steel" steel barrel chambered for 12 gauge with "M" marking for modified choke. High polished blue receiver very tastefully factory engraved in the C grade pattern. Left side of the receiver showcases a central game scene vignette depicting flying ducks over a marshy pond with tight scroll and rope borders. The right side has a pair of flying doves with lovely scrolls and a rope border. Hammer is case hardened. Diamond checkered walnut slide. Checkered semi-pistol grip stock is matching figured walnut with a serrated hard rubber butt plate marked "Marlin" in script at the toe. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel retains significant portions of original blue, starting to fade to gray patina. Frame likewise retains the majority of its brilliant polished blue finish. Stocks are very good showing some wear and field impressions. Some abrasions present along the woodline at the butt plate. Very good bright bore with minor imperfections. Stiff mechanics. A lovely early slide action.
