Manufactured by Burnside Rifle Co. in 1865 for US martial use, sub inspector marks present throughout. Fit with a 20" 3-groove rifle barrel, blade front sight, and ladder rear graduated to 900 yards. Classic lever action repeating receiver marked with "MODEL / 1865" designation in addition to 4-line address. 2-piece walnut stocks with the butt carved "C.L / + / I.R". Iron mounts include a single barrel band, saddle ring and bar, and a crescent butt plate. CONDITION: Very good overall. Metal components display a pleasing plum brown patina throughout. Forend is good with impressions and wear. Stock is especially fine with some scattered impressions, possibly a period replacement. Visible rifling present with some black powder pitting throughout. Mechanically fine.
