M2 .22 LR bolt action rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory. The receiver is stamped "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / CAL. .22 M2" above the serial number "8010" (4 digits before the final rifle sold in 1937). Barrel is stamped "S.A / (Flaming Ordnance Bomb) / 9-38". "NS/ M2 marked bolt root with "I" within a flaming ordnance bomb on the front of the bolt lug. Rifle is mounted with a standard Lyman Model 48 aperture rear sight and features a globe front sight. Unusual features include a full-length Type "C" pattern stock, Type 6 handguard, ground rear sight base with lightening grooves, as well as a ground bayonet lug on the front barrel band. Receiver, bolt shroud, buttplate, barrel, and front sight assembly are blued, while remaining components are parkerized. Rifle is mounted with a period brown leather sling. Consignor tag reads "#80 National Match/ Special Rifle/ 1903 Springfield/ "COMPETITION" ". CONDITION: Very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their arsenal applied finish, exhibiting some wear overall from use. Parkerized components exhibit areas of age-related discoloration, but are otherwise fine. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout and an unusual dark ring several inches from the muzzle. Stock exhibits some scattered marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise fine.
