6th plate Civil War tintype of what appears to be a very effeminate young boy or young female soldier dressed in a cavalry uniform. There is historical evidence that females served in various capacities hiding their identities. Trooper is holding a No. 2 Smith and Wesson revolver and wearing a forage cap. Housed in a full thermoplastic case that features a fantastic patriotic outside motif of a federal eagle, American flag, and a Coehorn mortar. The mat is also patriotic and features a fighting ship, cannon, and flag. CONDITION: Excellent overall.
