These items are from the Gilder family's Portland, Oregon estate sale in July 2001, and belonged to David D. Gilder and his brother in the 1860s. David's Brother was a captain in the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The lot includes an ornate pair of Civil War shoulder straps that measure approximately 4" x 1 - 1/2" with cast gold gilded ornamentation. The background is light blue which exhibits fading. The straps exhibit remnants of thread, indicating that they were removed from a uniform. Accompanying the straps is a top piece of a pin that is marked "Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps", the back of the pin is marked "Peeren Bros. & Co.". Also included is a glass whiskey flask with leather cover and engraved silver cup with small presentation that reads "DDG / From / EMA". Throat of flask is marked "E. Watts Jr. / Pat. Jan. 21. 1868". Both the cup and silver plated screw top are beautifully engraved with foliate designs. CONDITION: Varying, with all pieces exhibiting a pleasing patina. The consigner's original display card with Gilder family information is included as paperwork.
