Manufactured in 1881. Standard proofed blued 32 - 5/8" round barrel chambered for .45-70 with blade front sight and upgraded "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Case hardened breech block marked "U.S. / MODEL / 1873". Blued lock plate bears standard Springfield markings with eagle motif. Full-length walnut stock marked with sharp "SWP / 1881" cartouche and encircled "P" firing proof. Standard blued steel mounts including 2 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel retains nearly all of its lustrous blue with some light muzzle wear. Some toning present on lock plate. Breech block retains nearly all of its strong case colors. Stock is very fine with some scattered minor impressions. Bright bore displaying crisp rifling. Mechanically fine.
