Stub Damascus twist barrels marked "FINE STUB DAMASCUS" in the flat rib, with sprigs on floral engraving and retained by a wedge. Underside of barrels with Birmingham proofs for 13 gauge barrels. Darkwood muzzle-loading ramrod with trumpet tip and threaded jag on reverse is retained by a pair of ferrules and feeds into a reinforced mouth that is engraved with florals and finely stippled ground. Elaborately detailed serpentform cocks with fine stippled grounds en suite. Locks are unsigned but engraved with grapes and florals with a ground en suite. Vacant German silver escutcheon at wrist. Double triggers with finial engraved en suite with florals and scroll. Forearm and wrist are checkered in a point pattern. Buttplate with long spearpoint heel is engraved en suite. Housed in a period case with a Charles Lancaster trade label in lid and containing accessories comprising 3-part cleaning rod, leather-wrapped powder flask, and shot measure. CONDITION: Barrels a smooth chocolate patina throughout with some softness to legends and handling marks throughout. A few minor areas of peppering. Locks are very good with some oil staining, and good crisp engraving. Stocks are very good, solid, with some minor handling marks and somewhat dry towards butt. Forearm has a minor chip on left side. Mechanically fine, bores are good. Case has a large crack across the bottom that should be addressed. Accessories have period wear. Baize has areas of rubs through to wood and several repairs that appear more modern.
