Type II configuration dated "1808" on lock and butt plate. The 44 - 1/2" barrel is in-the-white with "P", eagle head, and "V" proofs near the breech. Lock remains in its original flint configuration with the flat beveled lock plate marked centrally with a script "US" over a right facing eagle, and "SPRINGFIELD" in a horizontal arc. Walnut military stock carved with "J.W" initials and spliced at the forward band with the section closest to the muzzle replaced. Standard Charleville-styled iron mounts. CONDITION: Good. Metal components have been cleaned to a silvery golden patina with evidence of pinprick oxidation throughout. Stock has been refreshed. A split present below the lock plate, with a section of loss also present ahead of the trigger guard. Lock could use some adjustment.
