American militia cartridge box, belt and M1816 bayonet, circa 1820. Black leather waist belt fastened with small iron frame buckle. Integral bayonet scabbard and frog. Cartridge box with 24-hole wood block. Long rectangular flap nicely embossed with narrow border lines, half-circle fans at lower corners, and large central circle with spiral. All border lines are accentuated with small ticks or feathers. Comes with detached vent pick on chain, missing pan brush. CONDITION: Belt good. Box very good. Belt is solid, but with two tears. Buckle firmly in place. Missing small sewn fastening billet at other end and interior supporting straps. Retaining loop in place. Minor rubs. Partial tear to stitching of frog. Scabbard complete, but creased, wrinkled. Nice finish to box. Contoured at rear for wear at waist. Fastening loops in place inside cover. Leather button missing from bottom. Belt loops with old tack repairs. One rear belt loop detached at top. Bayonet good. Mixed gray and brown. Slight bend to tip. Unmarked.
