An attractive pair of circa 1840s-1850s US militia saddle holsters for a pair of single-shot martial pistols, likely the Model 1842 pistol. The holsters feature an open yoke for the saddle pommel, loops at the sides for tie-down straps, and attached cartridge pouches, each with flap and 5 tinned iron cartridge tubes. Private purchase with blue covers. Trim emits a golden hue but was possibly once an off-white indicating a mounted officer of infantry, or possibly a dragoon. The leather exhibits areas of cracking, especially toward the bottoms. Flaps remain intact and firmly attached to holsters. Securing straps for both flaps are present but broken. Evidence of repairs to center yoke. There are areas of peeling of the blue covers, but they remain secured to the flaps. Nicely mounted on an oak display stand with brass pommel. CONDITION: Good.
