Rare grouping from a pilot who served in the 185th Aero Squadron during World War I. The group is named to Albert F. Clauss Jr. who was a pilot with the 185th. Known as the "Bats", the 185th Aero Squadron is notable as it was the first and only night pursuit squadron in the Army Air Service during World War I. Although the squadron only engaged in combat for less than a month before the 1918 Armistice, anything from this squadron is exceedingly rare. The group is tastefully framed and features Clauss' Air Service banner that is decorated with the insignia he wore during the war including a pair of captain's bars, an excellent set of wings, and signal corps aviation pin. His Pilot's Card is framed and mounted inside the display and there are several commemorative medals and ribbons underneath. Also included is his custom ID tag. The pieces exhibit light wear and have most likely been protected by this old frame for many years. Frame is beautiful and ready to hang. CONDITION: Very good.
